BARCELONA TARGETING THIS STAR MIDFIELDER PAUL POGBA
07:49FC Barcelona are looking to lift their third trophy this weekend with victory in the Champions League final vs Italian giant Juventus. A number of newspapers are reporting that in addition to wanting to take Champions League glory away from The Old Lady, they also want to take their star midfielder Paul Pogba.
Barcelona will have to wait till next summer to secure the signing as they are banned from making any additions to their squad in 2015 for breaching FIFA's rules on the transfer of players aged under 18. However many are reporting that this doesn't matter to the Frenchman and he's willing to wait 12 months in order to sign for Barcelona.
Since leaving Manchester United, Paul Pogba has gone from strength to strength and has become key to Juventus winning their domestic title as well as reaching the Champions League final this season .
The stats themselves might not be quite as spectacular as the hyper surrounding the 22 year old but taken alone they can be a little deceiving.
Although his eight goal return in Serie A is a modest return, the value of those goals cannot be underestimated. Of his eight goals, six of them was the strike that broke the deadlock in the game and four of them actually ended up being the goal that won all three points for Juventus. These are not goals adding gloss to an already winning scoreline but goals that have led to Juventus winning the title comfortably.
He also seems to be able to link up very well with the forwards with half of his goals being assisted by Tevez, Llorente or Morata. He returned the favor by assisting goals to both Tevez and Morata. If he were to work at Barcelona, linking up with their front three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar would be key and he already seems to be pretty comfortable in that respect.
Manchester City and Chelsea were both considered in for the 22-year-old, with City reportedly putting together a £70m bid with a further £45m in wages for the France international.
Manchester United, who saw Pogba walk out on them on a free transfer in 2012, are also understood to be trailing him.
But Barca are determined to find a long-term replacement for Xavi, who plays his last game for the club int he Champions League final this weekend, and reportedly see Pogba as the perfect fit.
Pogba will line up against Xavi in Berlin on Saturday and revealed he has no regrets leaving United.
“Yes, for sure, I am happy with how my time has gone in Turin,” he said. “I don’t regret it at all. I am very happy here and I enjoy it.
“I am in a Champions League final with Juventus, not Manchester, so things have worked out very well for me.”
